Twitter (X) keeps track of your recent searches, and there are ways to view, manage, and delete that history. Here's everything you need to know about your search history on X.
How to View Your Search History
On mobile (iOS/Android):
- Open the X app
- Tap the magnifying glass icon (Search/Explore)
- Tap the search bar at the top
- Your recent searches appear as a list below the search bar
On desktop:
- Go to x.com
- Click the search bar in the right sidebar
- A dropdown will show your recent searches
X only displays your most recent searches. It doesn't keep an unlimited history like Google does.
How to Delete Individual Searches
On mobile, when your recent searches appear, each search term has a small "X" button next to it. Tap that to remove a single search from your history.
On desktop, hover over a search term in the dropdown and click the X icon to remove it.
How to Clear All Search History
On mobile:
- Tap the search bar to show recent searches
- Look for "Clear all" or the trash icon at the top of the list
- Tap it to wipe all recent searches
On desktop:
Click the search bar, then look for "Clear all" at the top of the recent searches dropdown.
This only clears the searches visible to you in the app. X may still retain this data on their servers for internal purposes.
Does X Save Your Search History Permanently?
X stores your recent searches for convenience, but the visible list is limited. The full extent of what X stores on their servers is covered in their privacy policy. If you want a comprehensive record of your data, you can request your data archive through Settings → Your Account → Download an archive of your data.
Can Others See Your Search History?
No. Your search history on X is private to your account. Other users cannot see what you've searched for. The only exception would be if someone has physical access to your phone or is logged into your account on another device.
Tips for Managing Search Privacy
Use private browsing mode if you don't want searches saved at all. Clear your search history regularly if you share your device. Turn off search personalization in Settings → Privacy and Safety → Content you see → Search settings.
