Joining a Telegram group takes about 10 seconds once you know where to look. The tricky part is finding the right group in the first place. This guide covers every method for joining public and private groups.
Method 1: Join Through an Invite Link
The most common way. Telegram invite links look like this:

Click the link on your phone or computer. Telegram will open and show you a preview of the group, including its name, photo, member count, and description. Tap "Join Group" at the bottom.
If the link doesn't work, it might be expired. Private group invite links can be set to expire after a certain time or number of uses.
Method 2: Search Within Telegram
Open Telegram and tap the search bar at the top. Type the group name or a related keyword. Results will show a mix of channels, groups, bots, and messages.
Look for results labeled with a member count (like "2,458 members"). That tells you it's a group, not a channel.
Tap the group name, then tap "Join" on the group preview screen.
Note: Only public groups show up in search. Private groups require an invite link.
Method 3: From a Shared Link on Websites or Social Media
Many Telegram groups share their invite links on Reddit, Twitter, forums, and blog posts. When you click a t.me link in your mobile browser, it will offer to open it in the Telegram app.
On desktop, clicking the link opens Telegram Web or the desktop app, depending on your setup.
Method 4: Scan a QR Code
Some communities share their Telegram group links as QR codes on flyers, business cards, or websites. Open your phone camera, scan the code, and it will redirect you to the Telegram group page.
After Joining
Read the pinned message first. Most well-managed groups have rules and guidelines pinned at the top.
Don't post anything right away. Spend a few minutes reading the recent messages to understand the group's culture and topics.
Adjust your notification settings. Go to the group settings and mute notifications if you don't want your phone buzzing every time someone sends a message.
